Back to School Success Project

Help kids start the year off right!

Many of us fondly remember the start of the school year, shopping for school supplies, carefully filling our new backpacks, choosing our first-day-of-school outfit, and picking out special after-school snacks. We believe every child deserves to have this positive, exciting experience as they prepare for a new school year.

There are 7,000+ children in PRISM’s service area who are on free-and-reduced meal programs at their schools because their families are unable to consistently afford and provide these meals to their children. The added expenses of required school supplies at the beginning of every school year is an additional strain for these families.

PRISM's Back to School Success Project provides needed school supplies to approximately 600 students in our primary service area of Golden Valley, New Hope, Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Plymouth.

How can I get school supplies for my child?

School supplies are available for families in need who live in Golden Valley, New Hope, Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Plymouth (East of 494), and who have participated in PRISM services at least once since January 2016.

School supplies will be distributed on August 11 by appointment, and you must register in advance.

To register, text (763) 308-4890 or email Give your full name (please spell), phone number, and number of children needing school supplies. Register is open from July 5 - August 4 or until full.

How can I help families needing school supplies?

Our Back to School distribution event relies on both donations and volunteers!

  • Donate You can find a list of needed items here. Consider these ideas:  Buy extra school supplies while doing your own back-to-school shopping (e.g., purchase two pencil boxes – one for your child, one to donate). Or, skip the trip to the store, and shop online. PRISM’s school supplies wish list makes it easy—just order online and ship items directly to PRISM. Donations must be received by Wednesday, August 2.
  • Volunteer Helpers are needed from August 3 - August 11 to sort donations, set up for the event, assist with distribution, and help clean-up from the event. To get started volunteering, contact Kevin, Volunteer Coordinator, at Please note that volunteers must be age 12 or older.
